TSU's Barbara Jordan Archives to Receive Avoice Heritage Award

The Robert J. Terry Library’s Barbara Jordan Archives located on the campus of Texas Southern University has been selected to receive the Distinguished Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Member Preservation Avoice Heritage Award. The Avoice Heritage Celebration Opening Reception will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in Washington, DC. Mr. Bernard Forrester and Mr. Gary Chaffee of TSU’s Barbara Jordan Archives will attend and represent Texas Southern University.

The Distinguished CBC Member Preservation Avoice Heritage Award honors a former or current member that displayed commitment to cultivating minority civic engagement, public discourse on African-American history, or the preservation of important historic artifacts through philanthropic or programmatic support.

 

The Avoice Heritage Celebration is a major fundraising event for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Avoice Virtual Library Project, www.avoiceonline.org, which chronicles African-American legislative history and provides educational materials for the public. CBCF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational, and research institute which provides resources such as Avoice through the support of corporations, organizations and individuals.
