Julain Kane

Julian Kane is a graduating senior majoring in Radio, Television and Film, with a minor in Geography. He is a native of Oakland, California. Julian spent most of his high school years in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, DC, however, he moved back to Oakland his senior year of high school.

After graduating Oakland Technical High School, Julian took a chance and moved to Houston, Texas to attend the illustrious Texas Southern University. He has never looked back since making that huge transition. Julian has been a student leader since stepping foot on campus. His campus involvement includes serving as a mentor and senator in the Student Government Association, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, member of the Collegiate 100, Hispanic Student Association and the Wesley Foundation. In addition to extra-curricular activities, Julian prides himself on maintaining a 3.2 GPA. Julian is also an esteemed member of the world renowned TSU Debate Team in which he studied under the teachings of Dr. Thomas F. Freeman. During his time on the debate team he has performed in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, participated in speech and oratory competitions throughout the United States and was apart of TSU's second place finish in Berlin, Germany at the 20th Annual International Forensics Tournament.

Recently, Julian studied abroad at the University of Stellenbosh in South Africa. His course load included the Political History of South Africa, Representations of South Africa in Art and Media and Negotiating Identities in Literature and Film. He encourages everyone to leave the country and explore the different cultures of the world. Julian enjoys traveling, cycling, volunteering in the community and reading about diverse cultures and customs. His ultimate goal is to film documentaries about his various experiences in foreign cultures and adapting to their way of life. He hopes to give people a better understanding of the world through his documentaries. Shortly after his anticipated fall 2013 graduation, Julian plans to spend time in Colombia studying Spanish to become fluent in the language.
