What does compliance mean?
"Compliance" refers to adherence to, or the following of,
laws, rules, policies, and any other requirements that apply to your job
duties. You are not responsible for knowing all the laws and
policies that apply to Texas Southern University; however, you are
responsible for those that relate to your own immediate job duties.
What does the Office of Institutional Compliance do?
Texas Southern University is a very complex organization with hundreds
of employees and many departments. As a result, compliance-related issues
occasionally arise in the areas of Contract Services or Grants
Management. One of the responsibilities of the Office of Institutional
Compliance is to work with the various University departments to
appropriately address these issues or concerns. Additionally, the Office
of Institutional Compliance coordinates and provides training designed to
heighten employee awareness for compliance.
What is the objective of the Compliance Program?
The Office of Institutional Compliance focus for Grants Management and
Contract Services encompasses three areas: training, monitoring, and
reporting. To ascertain that the University complies with applicable rules
and laws relating to Grants Management and Contract Services, the
Compliance Office implemented a training program designed to heighten
employee awareness of applicable rules, laws and policies through
education. Sometimes it is easier, less expensive, and less time consuming
to prevent problems from arising than to remedy them after they occur.
