Chronic Disease Masterclass: Epidemiology, Prevention, and Intervention

There are documented chronic diseases that either increase the risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and/or present a new onset of conditions post COVID-19 infection. The objectives and activities of the chronic disease masterclass align with the Houston Health Department and CDC objectives/priorities related to improved health outcomes and increased education, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences initiative of addressing critical and urban issues, and the Center for Transformative Health’s initiative of health prevention and disease prevention. The course will be multidisciplinary in nature and will include seven modules that equip an audience of lay individuals, those with chronic diseases, and health professionals to understand the impact of COVID-19 on the burden of the chronic diseases.

  • Etiology and epidemiology of chronic health illnesses from a COVID prism
  • Trends and patterns of chronic health illnesses
  • Prevention and treatment interventions to address each chronic illness.
