Dominique D. Calhoun, J.D.

CalhounDominique D. Calhoun serves as the Director of Government and Community Relations for Texas Southern University. As an executive at the institution, Calhoun coordinates and implements the university's local, state, and national legislative and advocacy efforts. In addition, Calhoun works to cultivate and maintain relationships and develop strategic partnerships with Houston area and national non-profits, chambers of Commerce, and other public and private stakeholders.

Prior to joining TSU, Calhoun served as a staff member for Senator Borris L. Miles and Mayor Sylvester Turner (during his tenure as a member of the Texas House of Representatives).

Dedicated to improving the lives of all Texans and citizens throughout the country, Calhoun has contributed his legal knowledge as a board member to assist a number of non-profit entities, including - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., 4B Sales Tax Corporation of Wichita Falls, Constitutional Rights Center of Texas, National Bar Association, Emerging 100 Black Men of Houston Metropolitan, and Houston Young Lawyers Association. In recognition of his past contributions, he was named to the inaugural class of Wichita Falls's 20 Under 40 and acknowledged as one of the Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs of Houston.

Calhoun is a graduate of Thurgood Marshall School of Law located in Houston, Texas, and a two-time graduate of Midwestern State University ("MSU") located in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he earned a Bachelors of Science and Masters in Business Administration.

As a student, Calhoun was actively engaged in leadership roles at both institutions. At MSU, Calhoun was honored to have been elected as President of the Student Government Association. As a law student, Calhoun was appointed by Governor Gregg Abbott as the Student Regent for Texas Southern University, elected as the President of the Student Bar Association for Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and served on as an Associate Editor of the Law Review. In addition, he graduated in the top ten percent of his class.

Over his professional career, Calhoun has served as a thought leader in student affairs, founder of a construction company, and excelled as a development officer for a non-profit organization.
