RE: Pathways to Healing from Harvey

The Texas Southern University family is saddened by the devastating effect of Hurricane Harvey and the storm’s aftermath on the city of Houston and neighboring areas. Many members of our Tiger family have
been directly impacted by the storm and they are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

We want you to be safe and aware of our efforts to provide pathways of healing from Harvey as we prepare for the recovery phase.

  1. Texas Southern University will remain closed through Labor Day – Monday, September 4, 2017. The University will resume normal business operations on Tuesday, September 5. Essential personnel will return to work on Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1. Your safety is important to us. If you are not able to return to work, please contact your supervisor. We encourage you to use your best judgment when returning to work.

  2. PAYROLL – Direct deposit will be available on Friday, September 1. For those not enrolled in direct deposit,
checks will be distributed on Friday, September 1 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the security kiosk in Hannah Hall. Photo
ID is required. Please use your best judgment when traveling to campus.

  3. COUNSELING is available for our TSU family. We are partnering with the American Red Cross and trained crisis counselors are available 24/7 for students, faculty and staff. Call 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746 for assistance. Counseling is offered in a variety of languages. For the hearing impaired, please call 1-800-846-8517. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers counseling support through UTEAP-University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston - click here for link. Call UTEAP at 713-500-3327 or 1-800-346-3549

  4. STUDENT REFUNDS: Due to the delay to the start of the 2017 term, the refund process for undergraduate and graduate students will begin on September 7. Students receiving paper checks will be able to pick up refunds on September 8. Thurgood Marshall School of Law students will have their refunds processed per the normal schedule.

  5. We are announcing TSU Cares – A Pathway to Healing from Harvey – a dedicated emergency fund in our effort to assist faculty, staff and students impacted by Harvey. Applications will be accepted beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5.

University official information channels will continue to have the most current updates:

We want our Tiger family to know that we are here for each other. Thanks to the crisis management team
and the Board of Regents for their dedication and support. Remember that we are always #bettertogether
at Texas Southern University as we all take steps on this “Pathway to Healing from Harvey.” We look
forward to your safe return and a successful semester.
