TSU set to participate in NCAA Final Four events, Ocean of Soul ready
Look for Texas Southern University to have a huge presence in the upcoming NCAA Final Four weekend Friday, April 1 – Monday, April 4 in various locations around Houston.
Already, TSU students, athletes and administrators volunteered for the NCAA Day of Service community service events: "Rebuilding Together Houston" to assist in refurbishing a home for a military veteran who is also a current TSU student and "Keep Houston Beautiful" to help in refurbishing the TSU Community Garden (Blodgett Urban Gardens).
“The NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four is truly a spectacular event that embodies all that is great in the world of Collegiate Athletics,” said TSU Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Charles McClelland. “Texas Southern could not be prouder to be a part of this spectacular showcase as we get the opportunity to host and engage college basketball fans, supporters, student-athletes, and administrators. This is without a doubt an historic occasion for TSU and for all HBCU’s across the country.”
TSU’s famed Ocean of Soul marching band will be featured throughout the weekend to entertain the throngs of college basketball fans from around the country during this spectacular four-day event.
On April 1, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the Pep Band will play during NCAA Reese’s College All-Star Game as the nation’s best Division I seniors showcase their skills one final time. On April 2, from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. the band will play on the stadium grounds as attendees arrive for the first the first semi-final game and again April 4, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for the championship game.
TSU recruiters and alumni relations officers will set up shop Saturday, April 2 at the March Madness Music Festival®, at Discovery Green in downtown Houston and at the Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One® at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Alumni are encouraged to stop by the booth to get signed up with the Office of University Advancement to join the information distribution list.
In addition to performances by TSU’s Ocean of Soul band and a host of student volunteers, look for TSU commercials, signage and banner ads.
