TSU Board Statement – October 26, 2015
According to The Texas Southern University Board of Regents Chairman, Derrick Mitchell, TSU President, Dr. John Rudley has the full support of the Board. This confirmation came after a meeting, which was held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, to discuss challenges the institution has faced and the President’s wish to discuss his tenure at the institution.
"There is much work to be done to guarantee that TSU students are receiving a quality education and experiencing all this University has to offer,” said Chairman Mitchell. “The Board wants President Rudley to continue his efforts to move the University forward with an eye toward accountability which will ensure a strong future.”
Mitchell indicated that the Board stands ready to help provide the resources needed for TSU to operate in an effective and efficient manner.
"The students are our primary concern and this Board will seek all available support to maximize the University’s academic potential,” Mitchell said.
During a meeting on October 16, 2015, the Board was briefed on specific plans to heighten campus security, reallocate faculty and staff to maximize the allocation of critical curricula, and increase the amount of on-campus housing. A new 800-bed, state-of-the-art dormitory is scheduled to open in early 2016.
Dr. Rudley said, “I am grateful for the strong show of support by TSU's Board of Regents and will continue to fulfill all of the expectations set when I took office eight years ago. I am committed to TSU and its long-standing mission to educate its diverse population of students.”
Chairman Mitchell said, "We are satisfied that Dr. Rudley and TSU administrators are being pro-active in correcting issues that can impact the efficient operation of this historic institution. “The Board has recommitted to being a strong presence to assure there is complete oversight of all aspects going forward,” Mitchell said.
