TSU receives $100K HLSR grant award

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) continued its financial support to Texas Southern University with a $100,000 check for the Interdisciplinary Health Professions Simulation Center.

Joel Cowley, HLSR president and chief executive officer, presented the check to TSU President Austin Lane, along with HLSR Vice President Terence Fontaine, HLSR Director and Houston City Councilmember Dwight Boykins, and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

“Texas Southern University expresses sincere gratitude to all of the members of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Grant Committee who work tirelessly to raise funds in support of education,” Dr. Lane said. “Their commitment to education is unwavering and our students benefit greatly from their efforts.”

“The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is honored to be a community partner with Texas Southern University,” said Fontaine. “Our partnership will provide needed financial support to students seeking to better themselves through education.”

The Simulation Center, located in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, integrates interdisciplinary education, simulation training and inter-organizational collaboration into the curriculum. This is HSLR’s second year of funding in support of the Center.
