The Robert James Terry Library supports the curriculum and research needs of the University community through the development of pertinent collections and the provision of services designed to facilitate access to information and learning. The building was named for Dr. Robert James Terry, Interim President of the Texas Southern University from 1986-1987. The principal research collections numbering over 264,254 volumes of print materials and 464,308 microforms are housed in a centrally located facility providing seating for approximately 900 library users. The building has approximately 135,000 square feet of space. To augment study, a number of closed study rooms and individual study carrels are provided on most floors. With the exception of the Special Collections, the library maintains open stacks. Materials are classified using the Library of Congress Classification System. The Robert James Terry Library provides six major public access service areas - Reference, Circulation/Reserves, and Special Collections on the first floor; Serials are located on the second floor; the Learning Resources Center is located on the third floor; and the Business and Economics Library is located on the fifth floor; the Pharmacy Reading Room is located on the first floor of the Pharmacy building. Access to library materials is available on the Web. The Online Public Catalog is linked to the Texas Southern University web page. The library provides a variety of services to its users. These services include bibliographic instruction; reference and information services; interlibrary loans, circulation/reserve and document delivery.
