e-Learning Studio

Approved in 2005, the e-Learning Recording Studio at Texas Southern University (TSU) is a state of the art e-Learning recording studio, a one of a kind facility which gives the University the ability to add substantially to its e-Learning initiative. This studio has the capability to capture all aspects of a presentation. Five streams of video are utilized to ensure that all parts of a presentation are captured as well as the media edit capabilities to produce a TV quality product. The system has a smart podium that controls the functionality of the equipment and provides the presenter with access to a document camera, DVD/VCR player, and PC connection. The presenter is given the option of being mobile in the studio with the utilization of a wireless microphone system. Another very important component of the studio is the capability to incorporate another state of the art AVID video editing system. Finally, this process gathers digital media that is edited into a high quality video product that can be used to create a digital library collection of lectures, to download to Blackboard, and to distribute to TV stations for broadcasting.

Blackboard

Blackboard is TSU's choice for its Course Management System. TSU's Blackboard site can be located at http://texsu.blackboard.com.

Blackboard enables instructors to place their course material online without having to know any web programming languages. Students in turn have easy access to course material. They can print out class notes and take it with them to class. Therefore, they can spend more time listening and understanding the instructor’s lecture rather than frantically trying to write down everything.

Instructions on how to log into Blackboard can be located here.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be located at here.

Tegrity

The Tegrity solution enables instructors to place online their whiteboard writing, drawing, pointing, highlighting, audio, video, PowerPoint slides and screen recordings. Students do not need to have any specialized software; all they need is a Java-enabled web browser and Internet connection. Tegrity claims to work with a 28.8 Kbps connection as well as with a 100 Kbps connection. The recordings can also be viewed with or without video.
