The Library would like to announce a one month trial (ending 5/31) of the Naxos Music Library database.
Here is a description:
The Naxos Music Library is an online library of more than 1,227,000 tracks of music from the catalog of Naxos, a leading classical music label, and selected additional labels. Although Naxos is best known for its classical recordings (with more than 200 released each year), the Naxos Music Library also includes world music, jazz, blues legends, pop and rock, Chinese music, and national anthems. All of the Naxos repertoire may be searched in standard/advanced modes or browsed in a large number of categories and genres. In addition, Naxos offers a number of text resources including overviews of music history, program notes for recordings, and the complete libretti of operas available in the Naxos Music Library.
Students will find composer biographies, glossary of musical terms, work analyses, CD liner notes, and many other useful text resources. Playlists can be created by students and professors alike for private use or to facilitate in-classroom discussion. Students and professors have access to the Naxos Music Library both on and off campus. Multiple users can listen to the same tracks at the same time as opposed to waiting for the library copy to be returned. In the classroom, teachers can choose from a great selection of music to play without having to find or purchase CDs.

Our Mission:
The Robert James Terry Library supports the curriculum and research needs of the University community through the development of relevant collections and the provision of services designed to facilitate access to information and learning.
The building was named for Dr. Robert James Terry, Interim President of the Texas Southern University from 1986-1987.
The principal research collections consist of over 261,506 volumes of print materials and media, along with 504,149 microforms, and 1,774 print periodicals, that are housed in a centrally located facility providing seating for approximately 687 library users. The building has approximately 135,000 square feet of space. Closed study rooms and individual study carrels are provided on most floors. With the exception of Special Collections, the library maintains open stacks. Materials are classified using the Library of Congress Classification System as presented on the Library of Congress website.
The Robert James Terry Library provides seven major public access service areas - Reference, Circulation/Reserve, and Special Collections are on the first floor; SerialsDepartment is located on the second floor; the Learning Resources Center is located on the third floor; the Business and Economics Library is located on the fifth floor; and the Pharmacy Reading Room is located on the first floor of the Pharmacy building.
Access to library materials is available on the Web. The Library catalog is linked to the Texas Southern University website.
The library provides a variety of services to its users. These services include bibliographic instruction; Ask a Librarian; information services; circulation/reserve, My account interlibrary loan and documentdelivery, DistanceLearning Services, and Other Services. There are a variety of electronic resources including databases, indexes, full text journals, and electronic books.
Distance Learning Services:
The library has responsibility for making its resources and services available to
users regardless of physical location. Therefore, the library identifies, develops,
coordinates, implements, and assesses these resources and services. "The library's
program must be designed to meet not only standard informational and skills
development needs but also the unique needs of the distance community" - as approved
by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Board of Directors, July

The Robert James Terry Library adheres to the ACRL Standards for Distance Learning
Library Services and provides a number of resources and services designed to meet the
research needs of the distance learning community.

The Robert James Terry Library supports the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Information Literacy skills are an essential part of our library instruction program that infuses the essential components into all library lectures, guides, tutorials, library websites, and others.
