Welcome to the Gerald B. Smith Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development
The Gerald B. Smith Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (Smith Center) was established at Texas Southern University in 1998 to expand the focus of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business beyond educating and preparing students for positions within corporations to raising student awareness of self employment as career alternative.
Amidst a shifting economy and rapidly changing business markets, entrepreneurial skills are in more demand than ever before. It is the desire of the Smith Center to provide students the expertise and experience they will need to thrive within their own business or in a corporate setting.
The Smith Center increases the University’s focus on entrepreneurship and develops academic, student focused and community outreach initiatives to give practical and experiential emphasis to the course work. The Smith Center strives to nurture and encourage entrepreneurial spirit in the students and faculty of Texas Southern University and in the local community.
The Smith Center is provides free business consultation, training, internet access, a resource library, student internships, and entrepreneurial lectures. The Center’s services are targeted to low to moderate income clients in the Houston area.
