PROGRAM PROPOSALS

The objective of the “Teaching in the 21st Century: Technology and Beyond” conference theme is to present 40-minute sessions where each participant will be able to leave the session with new ideas and strategies for more effectively using technology in the classroom or other learning environments.  Preference will be given to proposals in keeping with the conference theme that demonstrate and model interactive and innovative teaching methods.  It is hoped that many of the sessions will be of cross-disciplinary interest.  Sample areas for proposals sought include:

  • Exercises, games, simulations, technology in education/training
  • General educational issues in utilizing technology to teach
  • New approaches to learning
  • Course and class design

All proposals will be double-blind, peer reviewed by faculty in a number of disciplines.  Submission of a proposal represents a commitment to present the session if the proposal is accepted, and to participate in the entire conference.

All presenters, including co-presenters, need to register for the conference.  We encourage you to register as soon as possible.

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

Please submit an electronic Word document of your proposal for double-blind review by September 14, 2007 in two (2) parts – A cover sheet and the body of the proposal

  • The cover sheet should contain the following information
    • A short, descriptive title
    • Presenter identification indicating the name, title or position organizational affiliation, address, telephone number and e-mail address of presenter(s).
    • Special equipment requirements (e.g., overhead projectors, flip charts, slide projector, VCR, DVD player, etc.)
    • An abstract (50-100 words) of the presentation for inclusion in the program if your proposal is accepted.  This will be the participants’ primary source of information for determining session attendance.

  • The body of the proposal should state the presentation’s purpose and describe:
    • WHAT you propose to discuss during the session;
    • HOW you plan to use the 40 minutes; and
    • WHY your session will be of value to participants.

In order that proposals can be blind reviewed, please restate the title of your presentation at the top of the first page of the body of proposal and do not include your name(s) or affiliation(s) in this section.  Normally, presentation descriptions should be limited to three double-spaced pages.

PROPOSAL EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • Clarity and coherence of the session title, objectives, activities, and description.  For example, does a proposed session on group-based learning include group activities?  Does the proposal communicate how the session will be conducted?
  • Contribution to new or innovative practices for learning and teaching or research in business education.
  • Description and assessment of exemplary practice.
  • Likelihood that the session will stimulate active engagement of participants.
