The scholarships awarded are the Jesse Jones & Mary Gibbs Scholarship, Jesse Jones Endowed Scholarship, JHJ School of Business Scholarship, Business School Endowment, Southwestern Bell Scholarship, S.H.A.C.M. (Dominic Swan Financial Group), Reliant Energy Endowed Scholarship, and the Pennzoil Business Scholarship. These scholarships award students with monies ranging from $500-$6,000 an academic year. In addition to a four-year scholarship to JHJ freshman students, the Reliant Resources Foundation's Corporate Scholars Program also awards recipients with an eight-to-ten week paid summer internship and an academic and career mentor. Among the School's scholarship recipients, 15 students are first-time freshmen and 15 are business honor students of the Frederick Douglas Honors Program. Various requirements exist in applying for the several scholarships, including grade point average, major, classification, financial need, standardized test scores, and extracurricular involvement. A qualified team of faculty, staff, and executives review each scholarship application. Each applicant's information is compared to the objectives of the issuing scholarship and the best fit is awarded. The School of Business Scholarships issues the bulk of scholarships within the School. Scholarships are awarded in categories of bronze, silver, and gold. Eligibility for these scholarships that are issued to first-time freshmen and transfer students, require students to meet GPA, ACT and/or SAT standards, which are displayed in the chart below.
