Joseph L. Boyd is Dean of Texas Southern University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business. The School of Business is the fastest growing school within the University with more than 1900 undergraduate and graduate students. Prior to joining Texas Southern University, Dr. Boyd served as a Distinguished Professor of Accounting at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He also served as Benedict’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. From 1983 – 1998, Dr. Boyd was Dean of Norfolk State University’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship. Previously, he worked at North Carolina A & T State University as an Accounting Department Head and Associate Professor. Over the years Dr. Boyd has been instrumental in gaining funding for grants from corporations and governmental agencies ranging from $20,000 - $2,000,000.

Dr. Boyd is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the Initial Accreditation Committee for the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). He has served as a board member on various organizations including: The Houston Technology Center, Texchange (Texas Entrepreneurs Exchange), The Texas Council on Economic Education, INROADS, Inc.-Houston, The Houston Area Urban League, Virginia Retirement System (30th largest pension fund in the U. S. and the 49th largest fund internationally), Signet Bank, Southern Business Administration Association, Beta Gamma Sigma, National Association of Trustees, Norfolk Works, Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, United Way of South Hampton Roads, and Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church.

He was an Advisor and Reviewer for the AACSB for many universities. He also made numerous Military Installation Voluntary Education Review (MIVER) Team Visits.

Dr. Boyd co-authored several publications in various journals including: Journal of College Teaching & Learning, International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD) Proceedings, Proceedings of the AIMS-International Conference (International Conference), International Journal of Management, and The Tax Adviser.

Dr. Boyd received B.S., M.Acc. and doctoral degrees from the University of South Carolina. He is also a certified public accountant.
