Professional Biography
Dr. Claire Thoreson, assistant professor, Department of Educational Administration and Foundations, received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, a B.A. in History from Northland College (Ashland, WI), a M.S. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. in Measurement, Evaluation and Statistical Analysis from The University of Chicago. Dr. Thoreson then completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the National Opinion Research Center sponsored by the Department of Sociology at The University of Chicago. Dr. Thoreson served as an assistant professor at the University of New Orleans from 2005 to 2012 where she taught a three course sequence in statistics as well as courses in measurement and research design for doctoral students. From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Thoreson served as the Assistant Director for doctoral studies as well as a faculty member in the graduate program at Edgewood College in Madison, WI. Prior to coming to Texas Southern University, Dr. Thoreson served as President and CEO of the firm CAT Stat Consulting. Her research interests focus on trends over time in race/ethnic differences in academic achievement and educational outcomes and how social context factors have had an impact on these performance gaps.
