Pharm. D. Admission Requirements

Thank you for your interest in Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences(COPHS)!   All prospective students interested in the Doctor of Pharmacy program are expected to review the admission requirements prior to submitting an application. The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Program 2017-2018 application cycle begins July 18, 2017 and closes March 1, 2018.  We encourage applicants to get started soon with the PharmCAS application and the College of Pharmacy and Health Science supplemental application.  

To apply for admission, applicants are required to:

  • Complete the PharmCAS application by March 1, 2018
  • Complete the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences supplemental application by March 1, 2018.
  • Pay the required supplemental application fee of  $100 HERE.
  • Provide PharmCAS with PCAT scores
  • Complete the required Pre-Pharmacy coursework for Texas Southern University COPHS
  • Submit three letters of recommendation through PharmCAS. (Acceptable: U.S. licensed practicing pharmacist required, a math or science instructor, and/or supervisor/employer)
  • Complete the Apply Texas application for non-Texas Southern University (TSU) students

Repeat Policy

  1. If a student repeats Pre-Pharmacy course, then the last grade will stand and be used for purposes of meeting admission and graduation requirements. Repeats are not averaged into the Pre-Pharmacy GPA.
  2. Grades less than a "C" in all prerequisite courses must be repeated.

GPA Requirements:

Early Decision Admission:

  • Pre-pharm Science GPA ≥ 3.30
  • Overall GPA of ≥ 3.30
  • PCAT composite of 40

Regular Admission:

  • Pre-pharm Science GPA ≥ 3.00
  • Overall GPA of ≥ 3.00
  • PCAT composite of 30

Provisional Admission:

  • Pre-pharm Science GPA ≥ 2.75
  • Overall GPA of ≥ 2.75
  • PCAT composite of 20
  • Pass all COPHS Summer Academy Post-Assessments

PCAT Requirements:

  • All applicants must take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) for admission into the COPHS.
  • A PCAT score is required to apply
  • A minimum PCAT score of 40 is required to apply (with the exception of provisional admission)
  • If the PCAT has been taken multiple times, the College does not average PCAT scores and will only accept the specific scores required for the current admission cycle. Applicants are encouraged to retake the exam to improve their score, if advised. However, applicants should be aware of the PCAT policy that limits the number of attempts
  • For the 2018 application cycle, scores from the following PCAT exam dates will be accepted:
    • January 2017 through September 2017 (Early Decision)
    • January 2016 through January 2018 (Regular Decision)
    • January 2018 PCAT scores will be considered for the 2018 admission cycle
    • New- February 2018 PCAT scores will be considered for 2018 admission cycle
What to expect after you apply?
      • Students with completed files who meet the required criteria and deadlines will be evaluated by the Admission Committee and then selected to interview.
      • Applicants will be invited to interview by e-mail only from the COPHS Office of Admissions.

Additional Information for International Applicants

International applicants must have all international transcripts evaluated by approved Evaluation Services accepted by the university.
