Pharm. D. Admission Requirements

Thank you for your interest in Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS)! All prospective students interested in the Doctor of Pharmacy program are expected to review the admission requirements prior to submitting an application. The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) will open this summer. We encourage applicants to get PharmCAS application and the College of Pharmacy and Health Science supplemental application.

To apply for admission, applicants are required to:

  • Complete the PharmCAS application www.pharmcas.org.
  • Complete the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences supplemental application.
  • Pay the required supplemental application fee of  $100 HERE.
  • Provide PharmCAS with PCAT scores.
  • Complete the required Pre-Pharmacy coursework for Texas Southern University COPHS.
  • Submit three letters of recommendation through PharmCAS. (Acceptable: U.S. licensed practicing pharmacist required, a math or science instructor, and/or supervisor/employer.)
  • Complete the Apply Texas application for non-Texas Southern University (TSU) students.
  • International applicants must have all international transcripts evaluated by approved Evaluation Services accepted by the university. Please see the link below for more information on International Admissions. http://www.tsu.edu/admissions/international/.
  • Complete all science and math classes the spring semester before admission, if admission is offered.


Repeat Policy, GPAs and PCAT scores

  • While the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences does not average failing grades;
  • The pharmacy program does consider the multiple times science/math classes are repeated when considering an applicant for admission.
  • Grades less than a C in all pre-pharmacy classes must be repeated.
  • If a student repeats a Pre-pharmacy class, the last grade earned will stand and will be considered for the purpose GPA calculation.
  • Minimum GPA required is 2.75 in prerequisite and math/science GPAs.
  • PCAT scores are expected to be competitive for admission with a score of 35 to be considered to interview.
  • PCAT scores more than two years old (taken prior to January 2017) will not be considered.
  • For the 2019 application cycle, PCAT scores January 2017 through February 2019 will be considered.
  • Applicants are encouraged to retake the PCAT score to improve their scores, if advised. However, applicants must be aware of the PCAT policy that limits the number of attempts.
  • If the PCAT is taken multiple times, the College does not average PCAT scores and will only accept the specific scores required for the current admission cycle.


Early Decision Applicants/Admission

For the 2019 application cycle, PCAT scores from January 2017 through September 2018 will be considered.

  • Pre-pharm Science GPA ≥ 3.30
  • Overall GPA of ≥ 3.30
  • PCAT composite of 40
  • All pre-pharmacy coursework completed by Spring 2019


What to expect after you apply

  • Applicants who meet the criteria to interview will be contacted by e-mail only
  • Applicants must be verified by PharmCAS and have submitted Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences supplemental application to be offered an interview.
