ClaiborneHouston, Texas, March 25, 2013. The Jesse H. Jones School of Business is pleased to announce that Professor Claudius B. Claiborne, Professor of Marketing and Faculty Advisor for the JHJ Leadership Fellows Program, has been accepted into the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Program class of 2013. As a distinguished educator, he joins a global community of educators that collaborate on solutions to the global education challenges of today and tomorrow.

Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) are educational leaders recognized for doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom. They explore new ideas, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities. That includes working with each other and with Apple to bring the freshest, most innovative ideas to students everywhere.

Claiborne is well known for encouraging students to work with the latest technology in the classroom. This is an approach which leads to greater engagement. Apple’s software and hardware platform facilitates teaming and communication, particularly on group projects. Professor Claiborne relayed his excitement, “I’m honored to be in this very select group. I have been a believer in Apple's educational commitment since we did a project for them in 1990. They shared with us their strategic plan for education in the year 2000. It was demonstrated in a video that was called the "Knowledge Navigator." This futuristic computer included many technologies that have only recently become viable. Ideas like touch screen (iPads), voice activated search (Siri), and virtual teaming (Face Time) have only recently come to realization”.

“We are proud and honored to have Dr. Claiborne on our team and congratulate him on being recognized as one of the most innovative educators in the world, stated Ronald Johnson, Dean of Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University; the Class of 2013 represents a very talented cross-section from the education community. We know Dr. Claiborne will value this network of amazing individuals as colleagues, mentors and friends for years to come”.

The Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Program began in 1994, when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of over 2,000 visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with technology in and out of the classroom, from the United States to China, New Zealand to Turkey. They gather every year at ADE Institutes and education events around the world, as well as online in the ADE community to collaborate on solutions to the global education challenges of today and tomorrow.
