THE TEXAS BUSINESS HALL OF FAME AWARDS
SCHOLARSHIPS TO 31 TEXAS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

On November 5, 2014, the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation awarded thirty one $10,000 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students focusing on entrepreneurship studies at Texas universities.  The awards were presented at a luncheon in their honor at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The Foundation annually awards at least one scholarship at each of the program’s current twenty three participating Texas universities.  This year, Texas Southern University was represented by Ja’Tez Gardner, Mahesh B. Vanjani, Ph.D., Professor of Management Information Systems and Chair for the Department of Business Administration of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business stated with immense excitement, “I am especially proud of Ja’Tez having won this award as he is the first JHJ School of Business Master of Science in MIS student to have been awarded this prestigious scholarship.” On the same evening, the scholars were presented at a gala for 1,200 attendees, who also witnessed the induction of six Texas Business Legends into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.  These included Donald L. Evans, Midland; Gerald J. Ford, Dallas; Douglas D. Hawthorne, Dallas; Trevor Rees-Jones, Dallas; Harold C. Simmons, Dallas and Kelcy Warren, Dallas.

 

GardherJa’Tez Gardner - Texas Southern University

Ja’Tez Gardner was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he was inspired by music. He became a true musician by learning the trumpet and French horn, in which he later received multiple scholarships from Universities all over the U.S. He attended Southern University in Louisiana, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing & Sales. He is currently attending Texas Southern University for his Masters in Management Information Systems.
