The faculty, staff and students in the Department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences (HSCS) welcome you to Texas Southern University where “Excellence in Achievement” is our motto.  We are a dynamic and growing department focused on developing professionals for entrepreneurial and leadership careers/positions that promote the health, well being and qualitative development of children, families and individuals.  The department offers two degrees at the undergraduate level:

• the bachelor of science degree in Dietetics; and
• the bachelor of science degree in Human Services and Consumer Sciences with areas of concentration in:
  • Child and Family Development
  •  Family and Consumer Sciences (with or without certification)
  • Human Development and Family Studies (certification program)
  • Foods and Nutrition. 

Numbered among our alumni are directors of child development centers; sports nutritionists; dietitians in hospitals and research agencies; directors of food service systems for school districts; restaurant owners; teachers of young children; university professors; family life and child development educators; family and consumer sciences/human development high school instructors; community center directors; and elder care professionals.  If you are interested in entering a challenging, but interesting profession that impacts the “whole” of society, we invite you to become a part of the Human Services and Consumer Sciences Department…a student centered department that “Helps Students to Change Society.”
