OUTREACH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENTS
TSU ALABAMA GARDENS
Vegetables from this Third Ward Community Garden are planted, weeded and harvested by Food and Nutrition and Dietetic students and shared with community residents.
A newly shared venture on the campus of Texas Southern University, Food and Nutrition and Dietetic students plant and harvest vegetables that they use in food demonstration projects; others are shared with elderly residents in the community.
PROJECT ROW HOUSE
Celebrating the spirit of giving and sharing to children in the Third Ward community, Human Services and Consumer Sciences’ students provide tutoring and holiday celebrations for children of single mothers housed in Project Row House.
Child Development and Family and Consumer Sciences students participate annually in Lemonade Day, a nationally recognized day that is devoted to helping children learn entrepreneurial skills through the sale of lemonade.
CHILDRENS’ BOOK FAIR
During this annual event sponsored by Child and Family Development students, children and their families are feted with storytime, poems, recommended children’s books and other events that focus on oral and written literacy.
