Viola KingTexas Southern University Women’s bowling is clearing out lanes. These ladies are ranked 10 th in the nation. They have kept the ball rolling and the pins falling with an 8-0 SWAC record, and by defeating Prairie View this past weekend they won the SWAC West Division. Having this flawless streak, the Lady Tigers have clenched the first seed in the SWAC Tournament that is to be played later this month on the 25 th-27 th in Baton Rouge, La.

TSU’s Women’s Bowling Head Coach Powell said, “The ultimate goal is to get a group of young ladies that will compete for and win the women’s NCAA championship and bring that championship to Houston and Texas Southern University.”

With a total of 6 players on the entire team, Coach Powell gave his reasons for their victories; he stated that, the women’s success is based on their value of education.

“All my students are academic students. We are not one of the best physical teams but we are one of the best thinking teams in the country. They are able to understand the philosophy that we are working because they are good in the class.”

Coach Powell has coached for eight seasons. He spent 2 years as an assistant coach and 6 years as the head coach. The bowling team is looking for sponsors or any form of help from the community to assist with purchasing polo shirts, balls, and money for traveling.
