Bowling Team Wins SWAC Title


 
2005 SWAC ChampsThe Texas Southern Women’s Bowling won their first ever SWAC Championship, yesterday after beating Southern University in the championship game.

The Lady Tigers were led by Brittany Gailor who had a tournament average of 216.42 pins which was the highest average of the tournament. Lindsey Wright also gave a strong contribution with an average of 208.92 pins. Gailor was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while Wright got First Team All SWAC honors.

TSU coming into the tournament had a bye in the first round due to their undefeated 8-0 conference record and capturing the SWAC Western Division crown giving the team the number one seed in the SWAC Western Division.

On the second day of the tournament the Tigers faced Alcorn State who had defeated Grambling State 4653-4647 on day one. The Tigers defeated ASU by the score of 5204-4540 and advanced to the Championship round.

The Tigers would face Southern University who had defeated Alabama State on day one 5366-4230, and Alabama A&M 5229-5134 on day two. TSU defeated SU by the score of 5301-5205 to win their first ever SWAC Bowling Championship.
