Dear Texas Southern University Student,
On behalf of the entire staff of the Cooperative Education and Placement Services Office ("Center"), I extend a cordial welcome to Texas Southern University. As you matriculate through the university system, be mindful of your career goals and objectives. Recent national trends suggest the following: (1) new graduates compete with each other and more experienced professionals for the same positions, (2) undergraduates that systematically plan and implement job search techniques enjoy a much greater success rate in their job efforts, and (3) the college degree does not provide insurance against unemployment nor underemployment.
The Cooperative Education and Placement Services Office "Center" has answers to many questions and situations facing new and returning students. We are here to assist all TSU students and alumni with their employment-related needs. This year, more than 1,000 individual counseling sessions and more than 50 workshops will be conducted by the staff to assist individuals in formulating and implementing their career plans.
Last year, approximately 3,000 students used our services with approximately 600 of them receiving employment opportunities in part-time, seasonal, and full time permanent employment
through the Job Location and Development (JLD) program, the Internship and Cooperative Education Programs, for full-time permanent employment program.
Recent graduates have been challenged and encouraged to use multiple job search strategies in the changing job market. The transition from college to a career though difficult, is an important factor in career satisfaction and success. You are encouraged to use the services available to you in the Placement Services Center to assist in your career choices.
We look forward to working with you this year. Best wishes as you pursue your academic studies at Texas southern University,
Sincerely,
Harry E. Clack
Director, Cooperative Education and
Placement Services Center
