The Board of Regents, faculty, staff and
students of Texas Southern University invite you
to join us in celebrating the inauguration of
John M. Rudley as our Eleventh President.
This website provides useful information on
events that will take place during Inaugural
Week, August 31 through September 7, 2008.
Texas Southern University’s simultaneous
recognition of the past, celebration of the
present and commitment to the future are
embodied in the Inaugural theme, Legacy
Now. Unified by this theme, students,
faculty, staff, alumni and supporters will come
together for a week
of events designed to showcase the University's
history,
unique assets
and engagement with the community.
The official investiture of President Rudley
will take place on Friday, September 5, from 10
am to 12 pm in the Granville Sawyer Auditorium;
a community Party on the Plaza will
follow. The next evening, the Inaugural Dinner
and KTSU Jazz Hall of Fame Honors will be held
at the George R. Brown Convention Center in an
event that combines the inauguration with a new
tradition - a spectacular musical showcase
honoring six jazz greats who have honed their
craft at Texas Southern University.
Other highlights of the week include an alumni
brunch;
the dedication of a new, state-of-the-art
educational building;
a panel discussion on the role of the university
in urban communities; a spirited, performing
arts production showcasing student, faculty and
staff talent; and a Third Ward beautification
project hosted by TSU students.
This site also includes information about
hotels, directions, parking and more for our
off-campus guests.
We are excited that you will join us for this
important week in the history of Texas Southern
University. We look forward to celebrating with
you! |
