TSU Alum, El Franco Lee Passes

Harris County Commissioner El Franco Lee has died. The family confirmed that Commissioner Lee suffered a heart attack and died January 3. Commissioner El Franco Lee, is a native Houstonian, where he began his political career in 1979 when he was elected Texas State Representative for District 142. In 1985, he was elected and sworn in as the first African American Harris Co. Commissioner, where he has been serving his seventh term.

Commissioner Lee is a graduate of Texas Southern University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Technology and postgraduate studies at the TSU School of Public Affairs, and the University of Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Kaye and two children.

 

TSU President John Rudley Issued the following statement:  

It is with deep sadness that I share news of the death of TSU Alumnus El Franco Lee, County Commissioner, Precinct One. Lee died of a heart attack this morning, Sunday, Jan., 3.

On behalf of the entire University Community, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the Lee family and friends. I ask all of you to keep the Lee family in your thoughts and prayers as we acknowledge  this sudden loss.
