At the beginning of the month, the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion hosted a Pre-Ramadan Potluck. Ramadan, which started on May 5, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslim as a month of fasting. Muslims commemorate the end of the day of fasting and sunset prayers with an "iftar," a large feast with family and friends.
A result of an office sponsored event called Maroon Table Talk, a student led discussions on diversity, students wanted to fellowship with others of their faith and celebrate the holiday before finals week.
“Our goal was to create a sense of community, and possibly reignite interest in a Muslim Student Association, and work with our Muslim students to plan more programming for the fall,” said Roberto Regas, coordinator for the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
