Texas Southern University alumna and Houston native Ki’Ora Michelle has launched her music career and on Friday, December 11, 2020, her new single “The Christmas Song,” debuted on KTSU 90.9 FM. The single features local Houston talent Greg Petito and is said to “truly set the tone for a warm and cozy night cuddled with the ones you love” according to Ki’Ora.

Since Christmas is her favorite holiday, she picked a staple as her first single. “Me being the jazz head I am, the first song I think about when I think of Christmas is ‘The Christmas Song’ by Nat King Cole,” Ki’Ora notes. “I wanted to pick a staple, since it’s just a single and I hope my acoustic interpretation is received well.”

Like many great performers who have come before her, the multi-purpose singer’s talents have roots in the church choir. Ki’Ora brings the dynamic of a hip R&B tone married with a traditional swing/bebop scat to jazz and alternative music. The classically trained jazz singer has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York City and has dominated several talent competitions.

A jazz performance major, Ki’Ora is jumping head-first into building her brand as an entrepreneur. She is working with an array of organizations, union musicians and band leaders, through MNX, her private equity firm that houses her live entertainment and branding agency.

“TSU has been tremendously integral in my becoming as an artist. I was able to find myself and my voice at TSU and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience right in my backyard,” said Ka’Oir.

“I feel so blessed to be supported by my community station. I promised Ernest and Donna a long time ago that I’d come to KTSU first to release my music and I’m grateful that the station has received me the way they’ve done so thus far.”

Ki’Ora debuted her single “The Christmas Song” on the Kyle Turner in the Jazz Club show hosted on KTSU 90.9 FM. Stream the song on all listening platforms.
