Research is a required component for many papers, and all disciplines. The first step to mastering research, is mastering information literacy. Information literacy is "[t]he ability to locate, evaluate, and use information to become independent life-long learners."1 Texas Southern University students can access CREDO to allow them to meet the ACRL information literacy standards which allow a student to:

  • Determine the extent of information needed
  • Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Evaluate information and its sources critically
  • Incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base
  • Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
  • Understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information, and access and use information ethically and legally

CREDO, a new information literacy course, is available on Blackboard Fall 2014. It allows students to explore how to access library and on-line resources, cite sources, create a bibliography, and much more.
