TMSL ALUMNA NAMED ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE YEAR

TMSL Alumna Angela Lancelin was named Assistant Attorney General of the Year by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. Lancelin, a 1991 graduate of Thurgood Marshall School of Law, was recognized for her outstanding work on behalf of the children of Texas. Honored on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Statewide Assistant Attorneys General Conference in Houston, Lancelin was selected as the Assistant Attorney General of the Year for the nine-county region based in Houston.

In a news release, Attorney General Abbott stated, “I commend Angela for her dedication and hard work to improve the lives of Texas children and families. Attorneys like Angela are what make this agency great.” Abbott recognized one assistant attorney general from each of Texas’ eight child support regions. Supervisors and employees submitted recommendations for the coveted honor. Each recipient demonstrated a desire to help others and enhance the Attorney General’s Child Support Division. Lancelin was praised by her colleagues for the enthusiasm and dedication she demonstrated to ensure that the children of Texas received the financial support they needed.

After joining the Office of the Attorney General in 1995, Lancelin was promoted to special litigator in 1999. As an assistant attorney general, Lancelin represents the State of Texas in legal actions to establish the relationship between children and their biological parents. She also works to establish, enforce, and modify court orders for child support and medical support.

The Attorney General’s Child support division offers an array of services to help families, including: locating absent parents; establishing paternity for children born to unmarried parents; establishing, enforcing, and modifying child and medical support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.
