The Thurgood Marshall School of Law Institute for International and Immigration Law will host a tsunami relief fundraiser on January 31, 2005, at Nit Noi Restaurant in West University to benefit the victims of the South Asian tsunami disaster. The fundraiser reception is scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m. Food, beverages and entertainment will be provided. Nit Noi Restaurant is located at 2426 Bolsover.

The Institute for International and Immigration Law is soliciting assistance from organizations, firms, and individuals to take part in this endeavor to serve as supporters, associates, sponsors, and contributors. Supporters are asked to help publicize the event by contacting their own constituencies, and distributing information to publicize the event. Associates are asked to consider providing contributions from their organizations or firms of $1,000 or more. Sponsors are asked to consider providing contributions from their organizations or firms of $250 or more. Contributors are asked to provide individual or group contributions at a suggested amount of $30 or more. All money collected will be donated to the Bush/Clinton Fund (BCF). Checks should be made payable to the Bush/Clinton Fund.

Each Supporter assisting in publicizing the event will be listed in a Tsunami Project Guide that will be distributed by the Institute at the event. Contributors and sponsors making contributions up to a week before the event will be recognized in the Project Guide as well.

Contributions to the Bush/Clinton Fund are tax deductible, and if made by Jan. 31, under new legislation, may count against 2004 taxes. Arrangements with BCF have been made to facilitate timeliness of contributions made on the evening of Jan. 31 and BCF will provide the necessary tax documentation.

There has been an almost unprecedented outpouring of humanitarian assistance and compassion since the disaster in December, and we recognize there are numerous activities and drives currently raising money for this effort. Considering the magnitude and scale of the human suffering, our hope at the Institute is to contribute what we can to express compassion, and provide heartfelt assistance to those in need. Please help us in this effort.
