BAR EXAMINATION PREPARATION PROGRAM

 

TMSL through the Office of Academic Support Programs hosts several bar preparation programs to assist its students in passing the bar exam.Such programs are:

 

Bar Orientation Class – designed to help students familiarize themselves with all sections of the Texas Bar Exam. Students are also exposed to MBE and MPT type exam for those students taking other states bar exam. This course is hands, students practice exam type questions, released bar exam questions, and get feedback.

 

MBE Jump Start Program – an early bird program designed to help students refresh their minds eight weeks prior to the end of their last semester of law school so that they can be more productive when the attend Barbri review course. The goal is not to replace the need for a review course but to refresh memory so that when students attend a review course it would be worthwhile and a second bit at the apple.

 

Essay Workshop – This workshop is devoted to bar exam essay writing techniques. The workshop will address what the bar examiners are looking for, how to write an essay exam, and how to get the maximum point for your essay exam answer.

 

MPT Workshop – This is a one day workshop designed to assist students with a portion of day 1 of the Texas Bar exam. The workshop will teach students the different types of skills tested on the performance exam. Students will practice with released MPT questions under exam conditions and get feedback.

 

P&E Workshop– The Procedure and Evidence workshop is designed to assist students with the other portion of day 1 of the Texas Bar Examination. Students will be taken through the areas that are frequently tested, be made to take a released P & E exam under exam conditions and given feedback at the end.

 

MPRE Workshop – This is a one day workshop designed to assist students in familiarizing themselves with materials needed to pass the MPRE exam which is one of the requirements for licensing in Texas and most States in United States. The workshop will consist of a lecture and practice session with feedback at the end.

 

BARBRI Scholarship Awards – TMSL pays for a number of bar review courses from Barbri to help students who are in need and cannot afford a review course who are taking the Texas bar exam. Most students who meet the criteria are awarded the scholarship. Some students taking the bar exam in other jurisdictions are also awarded either full or partial scholarship. Scholarships are awarded twice yearly for each administration of the examination. Applications will be accepted within the time frame posted as each application period begins. If you are interested please complete the BARBRI COURSE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM and submit to Ijeoma Opara, Director of Academic Support Programs/Instructor in Room 215 or via e-mail to iopara@tsulaw.edu.

 

BAR Mentorship Program - TMSL Alumni are called upon to help mentor those students that are taking the Bar exam in Texas. About two or three students are assigned to one mentor who will assist them from the reading period to the completion of the exam. If you want to serve as a Bar Exam Mentor please complete the following BAR MENTORSHIP APPLICATION FORM, and send it via e-mail to iopara@tsulaw.edu.

 

Care Packages – The ASPs staff go to the examination site on the first day of the Texas Bar Exam to wish our students taking the bar exam in the Houston location luck by giving them motivational packages. We do this at each administration of the examination. These packages contain: pencils, pens, erasers, ear plugs, etc all enclosed in a TMSL engraved pencil holder.
