The mission of the Department is to provide an overall high quality, applications-oriented curriculum in the engineering technologies. This curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers as engineering technologists who have the ability to understand new developments in their fields, adapt to change, embrace professional development opportunities, and assume professional roles in their respective fields.

In pursuing this mission, the Department seeks to prepare students for career opportunities in telecommunications, computer hardware/software, system development, quality control and testing, city and urban planning, technical management, facility planning and operation, and sales.

Students wishing to pursue the B. S. in Engineering Technology or declare a major in the Department must meet the admission requirements:

  • These requirements include successful completion of an accredited American high school or comparable foreign institution.
  • Applicants must have also taken the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  • New students are required to take the University placement test battery and successfully sit for the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) test before completing their sophomore year.
  • Transfer students from colleges or universities of recognized standing can obtain admission by presenting official transcripts of all previous college work and a complete university application.
  • Applications from international students are evaluated in the same manner as those of students from the United States. However, international students whose education and training have been in a language other than English must satisfactorily pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Contact the Department for advisement/registration once TASP requirements have been completed and deficiencies are remedied.
