Basic Science Degree (s)

The Department of Biology -The mission of the Department of Biology is to allow students to be better informed about biological phenomena and processes as well as application of information and knowledge gained toward an improved understanding of main, society, and the universe. The Department is charged with providing undergraduate students the appropriate background to pursue medical, biomedical, and other related careers. Preparation for advanced degrees and research programs are also stressed.

Degrees offered:

  •        *B.S. (Bachelor of Science)
  •        *M.S. (Master of Science) (Depart - Web-site)

The Department of Chemistry - The Department of Chemistry at Texas Southern University seeks to fulfill two primary missions. They are charged to prepare students for professional careers in chemistry and eventually, graduate study. The Department also is organized to give students, who are majoring in related fields, an understanding of fundamental techniques that will permit them to be successful in their chosen major. Each track is a composite program of study, and neither requires the declaration of an official minor in another academic discipline.

Degrees offered:

  • *B.S. (Bachelor of Science)
  • *M.S. (Master of Science)
  • *Ph. D (Doctor of Philosophy) (Depart - Web-site)
The Department of Mathematics - The Department of Mathematics, one of the largest instructional units in the University, provides major support to the overall undergraduate curriculum at Texas Southern University since every undergraduate degree or program of study includes mathematics. The curriculum includes academic preparation in the areas of problem solving, computing, and other activities that depend on an understanding of mathematical processes. Requirements include components in mathematics, physical science, and management. Preparation for advanced degrees and research programs are also stressed.

Degrees offered:

The Department of Physics - The Department of Physics aims to provide a broad understanding and background in fundamental physics. This is established through basic and advanced course work, research, and hands-on training. The Department also provides opportunities for students who would like to explore research. The working mission is to make students aware of the natural laws that govern our universe.

There are six concentration areas leading to the B.S. in Physics are:  Engineering Physics, Health Physics, Mathematical-Computational Physics, (Pre) Medical – Radiation Physics, Physics Education, and Pharmaceutical-Physical Sciences. All of the Concentrations emphasize the same basic curriculum through the first four semesters (Scholarships are available with high GPA (3.0 or better) Preferences will be given to students who have had one year of calculus.

Degrees offered:

  • *B.S. (Bachelor of Science)
  • *M.S. (Master of Science)

The Department of Transportation Studies - is one of only a few institutions of higher education approved by the Federal Aviation Administration to prepare technically trained people for aviation careers. The curriculum includes academic preparation for careers in aviation management, air traffic control, flight operations, and aviation information systems management. Requirements include components in mathematics, physical science, management and computer science. Preparation for advanced degrees and research programs are also stressed.

Degrees offered:
