Is a Previous Degree Required in any Specific Field?
The undergraduate program in airway science does not require a previous undergraduate degree. However
applicants should satisfy specific university prerequisites which can be found at the following links:

What about English Prerequisites?
All international students who apply for our programs are required to provide the Test of English as Second Language (TOEFL) score. A minimum score of 550 is required for all programs.

What type of students are enrolled in the Department (i.e. their Background,
etc)?
Students with diverse background from all over the country and the world have enrolled in our transportation program in the past. Examples of background of our students include engineering, computer sciences, mathematics, planning, political science, public affairs, and many others.

What is the length of the program?
The Department of Transportation currently offers three programs on campus, each of which have different lengths. They are as follows:
1. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Airway Science (AWSM/AWCS) has a duration of 4 years.
However, it is not unusual to see students fulfilling their curriculum in as few as 3 years, while others complete their requirements in 4.5 to 5 years.
2. The Master of Science in Transportation Planning and Management normally takes two years. Some students finished in 18 months, while others needed 30 months.
3. The Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management is a 3 year post graduate degree.

Is the graduate thesis company or research based?
Students who select the thesis option in their degree plans must present and defend their original
research work in order to graduate. However, students who select the internship option are only required to submit a professionally written internship report. These internship students are required to
take more courses than the thesis students.

Are there any types of students activities within the department?
Students at various levels are engaged in several organizations within the Department. Undergraduate students are actively involved in the Flight Team, the Association of American Airport Executives (AAAE), the University Aviation Association (UAA), Alpha Eta Rho etc. Graduate Students on the other hand are engaged in organizations such as the "Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)," which organizes various student activities during the year. The alumni association of the transportation program has also been active in organizing interesting activities. Students also have the opportunities to participate many activities organized by College of Science and Technology and Texas Southern University in general.

What are the Department of Transportation Studies’ undergraduate and graduate students’ prospects and placement?
Undergraduate and Graduate students in the Department of Transportation Studies have been placed to both public and private transportation agencies. Examples of public agencies that have hired our students include Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), Texas
Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Port of Houston, Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC), Federal Transit
Administration (FTA), City of Houston, Houston Airport System (HAS), Atlanta City, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) etc. Examples of private agencies which have hired our graduates include PB Farradyne Systems, Inc., Wilbur Smith Associates, RS & H, Inc., Continental Airlines, and many others.
