PRE-ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Pre-Alumni Association’s (PAA) purpose is to prepare students to become active alumni when they graduate. This association is headed and facilitated by a council. The council is organized on the basis of states, international student's association and of the four undergraduate classes. The executive council of the Pre-Alumni consists of the president, vice-president, treasurer, parliamentarian and recording secretary. The Pre-Alumni Council operates under the auspices of the Office of Alumni Relations and Student Government Association.
The Pre-Alumni Association raises funds for its activities, holds monthly meetings, completes two community service projects, and participates in Campus Organization Week. In addition, they donate monies to the University. Members may also form state or interest branches/chapters on campus. PAA members foster fellowship amongst themselves and with other students. Every year the PAA has a joint Holiday party in December with the Texas Southern University National Alumni Association (TSUNAA), as well as holds a special meeting to organize PAA Week. This is a week of activities in the spring hosted by the Pre-Alumni Association, culminating in an Awards Reception.
In addition to working with their members, PAC students become involved with TSUNAA, Inc. through the chapter and regional presidents, meetings, receptions and alumni events. When the TSUNAA, Inc. has their annual board meeting on campus, PAC students, along with other student leaders, have a chance to meet with them and find out how the association can help them.
The SGA encourages all new and returning students to participate in the PAA by becoming an active member. This will help them become future active alumni.
In order to strengthen the Texas Southern University Pre-Alumni Association, an PAA membership fee will be instituted as of January 15. The 2008 school year will include more PAA members only events, improved Freebie Friday gifts, discounted or free entry into a variety of PAA and TSUNAA events, and a membership kit with a PAA member t-shirt, membership card and more. PAA members will pay $15 for one school year or $50 for four consecutive school years. Parents of current TSU students and incoming freshmen are encouraged to purchase a membership for their student.
