Equal Employment Opportunity Policy

Federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Laws

It is the policy of Texas Southern University to provide equal opportunity in employment, contracts, and sub-contracts and purchase orders within the University and in all agreements or contracts with outside vendors. This policy of equal opportunity is strictly observed in all University employment-related activities such as advertising, recruiting, interviewing, testing, employment training, compensation, promotion, termination, employment benefits, and in our contracts with various University public entities and communities. This policy expressly prohibits discrimination in all these areas based on race, color, religion, gender, age or national origin, and provides for the full realization of equal opportunity through a positive and affirmative action program.

It is the ultimate responsibility of the President of the University to ensure that the highest level of enforcement of this policy in maintained throughout the University. The Affirmative Action Director is responsible for auditing and monitoring all personnel actions. In carrying out this responsibility, the President will require the active involvement and cooperation of the administrative staff.' Each Administrator, Dean, Director, Department Head, Chairman or supervisor is charged with the enforcement of this policy at his or her particular level.

In administering its employment policies, the University will base decisions on the principle of equal opportunity. It will also recruit, hire, train, promote in all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, gender, disability, national origin, or age, except where gender is a bonafide occupational qualification.

All personnel actions such as compensation, benefits, promotions, layoff, returns from layoff, institutional sponsored training, education, institutional grants for study and/or professional development, social and recreational programs will be administered without regard to race, color, religion, gender, disability, national origin or age.

The University also reaffirms its policy of administering all of its educational programs and services in a manner that does not discriminate because of a student's or prospective student's race, color, religion, gender, disability, national origin, age or other characteristics which cannot lawfully be basis for denial of services.

This policy is not intended to discriminate against any qualified employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, gender, or national origin. This policy statement is subjected to annual updating and is a part of all recruitment agreements, including those with employment agencies, college placement service and business associates who may assist in the University's recruitment effort.
