Professional Biography
Dr. Collette M. Bloom is an associate professor at Texas Southern University in the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations. She formerly was on the faculty of University of Houston in the Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies. She teaches graduate students who are in the principal certification program, and also serves as the Research Coordinator for the College of Education.
Dr. Bloom previously served as a principal in a large urban middle school in Austin, Texas, and has over 30 years experience in public schools systems in Texas and Louisiana. In August 2003, Educational Administration Quarterlypublished her article: African American Women Principals in Urban Schools: Realities, (Re)constructions, and Resolutions. In December 2003, her article, Three Voices in Portraiture: Actor, Artist, and Audience, was published in Qualitative Inquiry. She has presented internationally in Umea, Sweden to the Commonwealth Conference on Educational Management, and Montreal, Canada at the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Bloom also received a scholarship for her doctoral study from the AERA Research on Women Special Interest Group. In 2008, Dr. Bloom received a seed grant from Texas Southern University's Office of Sponsored Programs for her study on mentoring African American Women in Educational Administration, and an E-Learning Grant to develop an online course using BlackBoard.
In the Summer of 2008, Dr. Bloom was the recipient of a Faculty Development Award from Harvard University and studied at the Harvard School of Business on Leadership using Case Study Methodology.
