For your convenience this section provides answers to questions that you may have pertaining to the residential community.
1. What is The One Stop Shop?
The one stop shop is the new Housing Office located in the Leasing office of Tierwester Oaks/ University Complex designed to meet all TSU student housing needs.
2. Why was this change made?
One June 1, 2009 the One Stop Shop was created to better serve all TSU students
3. What are the living communities on the campus of Texas Southern University?
There are (4) living communities available at TSU which include: Residence Halls- Lanier East for men and Lanier West for women University Courtyard/ Tierwester Apartments Greystone Apartments Savoy Apartments
4. Is there any housing available for Fall 2009?
Yes, however All of our campus housing is based on “First come, First Served Basis” with priority given based on the University Academic Village (freshman 1st, sophomores 2nd, etc.)
5. What is the deadline to apply for Housing for Fall 2009?
Housing applications received after July 1, 2009 will be assigned only if space is available. Please submit application prior to this date for consideration.
6. How much is the deposit?
It is $350.00 to complete the housing reservation for Residence Halls/Tierwester Oaks and Courtyard Apartment/Savoy Apartments. However, if you select Greystone Apartments the deposit is $300.00. The recommended form of payment is Cashiers Check or Money Order.
7. What other forms must I submit to have a completed housing application?
All students must submit updated shot records and a physical to live in TSU sponsored housing.
8. Is it true that all students who live on campus have to pass a back ground check?
Yes, all students who reside on campus will have to pass a personal background check.
9. Can the housing department mail me an application?
Please visit the TSU website, www.tsu.edu for the University Campus Housing. “Click on” Quick links and then “Click on” Housing on the web page: you will find the Housing and Meal Plan Information RATE SHEET. In addition you will find all application materials and a complete step by step Housing Procedures outlined on the housing web page.

11. Is a meal plan required for all students living in TSU sponsored housing?
Yes, all students are required to participate in one of the 5 meal plan programs. Freshmen living in university sponsored housing are required to select either the 19 meal plan or 14 meal plan
12. When will I find out if I have housing?
Confirmations will be mailed out to applicant beginning July 1, 2009, if you have a valid email address please contact the Housing office at 713-313-7206 or visit the Residential Life & Housing e-mail account at housing@tsu.edu to update your information.
13. When is payment due for my housing?
a. The first month payment is due on or before August 1, 2009. You must submit a financial aid award letter to be granted a waiver of the first month move-in payment. If the student has financial aid to cover housing then a waiver of the first payment may be granted. No waivers will be granted after August 1, 2009.
b. If you are not granted a waiver, you must enclose a money order or cashier’s check for the first month move-in payment with the signed lease contract and signed promissory note.
14. Do you assist with roommate selection?
Yes, a roommate profile form is included with the housing application to match students with roommates.
15. When can I official move into my residence hall/ apartment?
The official date to move into the residence hall is posted each academic year on the website and mailed to your home with your room confirmation information.
16. What is the cost of each room type in the residence halls/apartments

17. How big are the rooms in my residence hall/ apartment?
Room types vary from building to building contact your residence office to inquire about floor plans.
18. How big are the beds in the rooms?
All beds at Texas Southern University are Extra Long Twin sized beds
19. Where can I do my laundry?
Each residential community has laundry facilities on proper for your convenience.
20. Can I bring my car as a freshman or transfer student?
Yes, there is a fee for a parking decal. Please review the parking page on the Housing Website under the section of Residential Services. All cars parked in the neighborhood will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
21. Should I bring a computer?
It is up to you, the university has many computer labs and each bedroom is equipped with Ethernet and wireless systems for internet usage.
22. Can I have overnight guests?
No. Curfew is establish for all residential communities.
23. Is their a visitation policy in the residence halls?
In order to promote and maintain a positive, supportive, living and learning environment, the Residence hall staff will enforce limited visitation hours. Visitation hours for the Residence Halls are established by the Office of Residential Life and are intended for academic and healthy socializing. Visitation is not designed for overnight co-habitation. During certain times visitation is suspended, (i.e. Thanksgiving, Final Examinations, and Spring Break).
24. Can I bring a microwave and refrigerator?
Yes, please do not bring any oversized units, some building are older and can not handle large units.

27. What is the chain of command in Residential Life?

28. What amenities are available in my residence hall/ apartment?
Each Residence Hall is equipped with such amenities as high speed internet access, cable, computer labs, exercise equipment, vending machines, laundry facilities, and lounge areas.
29. What can I bring/ what items are prohibited?
Students will receive information concerning what they need to bring and what is not allowed in the Residence Hall with their confirmation letter.
30. What safety precautions are taken in the halls?
The Public Safety office hold seminars and advises the student body on various travel precautions to take while on campus and in the city. Statements regarding security are not intended to cause undue alarm. It is known that criminal activity in our society is prevalent. Large cities are especially vulnerable. The suggestions made are only those for which the student would need to exercise as a member of any community. Residence Halls and Apartment Communities are equipped with the necessary safety and security hardware, all front doors are kept locked and each student is issued a Texas Southern University Tiger 1 Card which activates the front door in their respective halls. Room door keys are issued to each resident. All residents must present a valid Tiger Card upon entry to the hall at all times or when asked by a University official.
31. Are there any special events or programs that take place in the residential communities?
Yes, the student and professional staff plan many programs and events to meet the needs of the residents. Each year Residential Life highlights the programming calendar with the Residential Olympics during the Spring Academic Semester (all students receive a t-shirt).

33. Will TSU take responsibility for burglary or thefts in the residential community?
No, It is recommended that all students acquired rental insurance for all personal property of value.
34. Is there a student governing body in the residential community?
Yes, House Council. There are eight (8) position elected within the residential community. You will learn more about the duties of these positions in your residential orientations.
35. What are the rules in the residential community?
All university students are govern by the University Student Code of Conduct. In addition, the Residential Life and Housing Student Handbook will serve as the official rules, policies and procedures in the residential community. Each student will receive a copy at the residential orientation after move-in.
