The 2006 National HBCU Schools of Business Summit Concept

The 2006 National HBCU Schools of Business Summit June 11-13, 2006 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands is hosted by the National HBCUs Business Deans Roundtable. The Summit will provide a forum for deans of HBCU Schools of Business schools to address requirements, opportunities, and challenges associated with the strengthening and growing of business programs and initiatives. Additionally, it provides deans an opportunity to assess their schools relevance to business and how well they are preparing students to enter the business world. The event will focus on how strategic partnerships and alliances with corporations, government agencies, and national organizations can provide the tools and resources for success. This years theme is Managing the B School in a Global Virtual Environment.

Key goals of the Summit include:

  • Provide a platform for the integration of business and technology to support and enhance curricula that will prepare students to effectively compete for employment opportunities and increase the number of minority students trained to be successful in business careers.
  • Increase employment recruiting opportunities for competitive career fields in major national and international corporations by HBCUs schools of business.
  • Explore how developing an entrepreneurial culture on our campuses will create a renewed sense of leadership - among students - that has become a requirement for employment position in the private and public sectors.
  • Promote and demonstrate that the HBCUs Schools of Business can be vital contributors to our nation's economy.
  • Increase internships, co-ops, and faculty exchanges in all areas of business, especially those with minimum African-American representation.
  • Partner with the private sector and government agencies to attract adjunct professors - to schools of business - who will teach business knowledge and share experiences to increase student and faculty exposure and awareness.
  • Collaborate with the public and private sectors to increase the capacity of campus business programs to prepare students for the present and future demands of corporate America and government agencies.
  • Identify and develop strategies and partnerships in new/upcoming industries and business fields to ensure faculty and student involvement, curriculum growth and employment placement to meet the diversity demands of the present and future business community.
  • Address best practices and lessons learned by establishing benchmarks and through dean mentoring with other HBCUs Schools of Business. Increase HBCU Schools of Business accreditations with world recognized accrediting organizations.
  • Increase instructional technology use among HBCUs by developing programs, tools and strategies to equip students with information fluency necessary to master the new technologies and modes of analysis and communication that they will need to succeed in todays digital world.
