Graduate Council Update

Graduate Admission

  • It was recommended that the GRE/GMAT be taken before admission to Graduate School.
  • International students must have transcript evaluated and verified by a Verification Service.
  • There will no longer be a "conditional admission."
  • If students have not passed the Writing section of th GRE, ENG501 must be added to their degree paln. They will be given a year to meet the requirement.
  • The wording for Englsih 501 will be changed by a committee comprised of Drs. Sollars, Cox, Deng, Hill, rep. from SOPA, etc.
  • The Graduate School Catalog will reflect changes to the 2.5 GPA.

Dissertation Chairs

Dissertation Chairs are expected to give guidance to the candidate(s) through the completion of the dissertation. Candidates are not expected to defend their dissertation until all parts of the project are complete (e.g., abstract, table of contents, all major chapters, appendix, and references page). After the defense, only minor edits should be required. This will allow the Graduate School to clear candidates before Graduation.

A Dissertation Chair is the person who is guiding the candidate in writing the final product. A Dissertation Chair is not necessarily the person who is assigned to the class (e.g., we have scheduled only one (1) dissertation class for the Spring; Dr. Ligons is the professor of record, but may not be the chair of all candidates registered for the class).

There are additional fees and forms to complete before submitting the final project. These forms will be sent in a separate email.

Dr. Lillian Poats is the new Associate Dean of the Gradute School.
