Message from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences of Texas Southern University! Committed to "Excellence in Achievement," the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences is the home of nationally renowned scholars and creative artists as well as an accomplished teaching faculty engaged in innovative research. The College has a clear and multifaceted mission—to educate every individual to live knowledgeably, responsibly, and humanely. Many schools and colleges search for slogans or brands, but we are fortunate that our mission is our brand.  The overarching goal of the College is consistent with the University’s mission—to enrich the curriculum, to prepare students for successful careers, and to support  the faculty in teaching and research.

Approximately three thousand students are enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences. The College provides instruction not only to its students, but also to students from other schools of Texas Southern University. Increasingly, technology is being used as a lever to assist teaching and learning. The College provides specialized training in a large number of distinct academic and professional fields and offers a broad spectrum of service courses to the other curricula of the University.

The College has eight departments that offer numerous academic programs, general internship programs, and three interdisciplinary programs--African American Studies, Latin American Studies, and Women's Studies.
