Community Outreach

Besides offering consulting, counseling, training and business development courses, the Smith Center is committed to meeting the needs of the community.  It also provides services to businesses and organizations in the Houston area.

Several programs based on the needs of the community include:

Buffalo Soldiers National Museum
The Smith Center contracted to revise the organization’s business plan and created a new strategic and operations plan as they embark upon a capital campaign to build a new museum in the Houston museum district.

Money.Power.Destiny 2007
Representatives of the Smith Center participated as organizers of the Money.Power.Destiny 2007 (MPD) conference.  The Money.Power.Destiny theme was born out of the community’s need to share knowledge that will encourage better money management habits and ultimately change the destiny of African Americans.

Government Procurement Connections
The Smith Center participated in the 16th annual Government Procurement Connections
(GPC) 2007.  GPC is is the premier public and private sector contracting fair, business expo and entrepreneur trainin g conference in the Gulf Coast region attracting over 10,000 participants annually to the two days of forums, business expo, workshops and award luncheon.

Houston Area Churches
The Smith Center has made inroads into a number of churches in the Houston area who are interested in hosting consultants to conduct a workshop or information session at their church.
