Against the backdrop of Houston's bustling superhighways, sleek office towers, and upscale townhouses and lofts are sections of the city struggling with substandard housing, urban deterioration and economic stagnation. Seeing the needs that exist in these communities and responding to the call to alleviate economic distress and encourage neighborhood revitalization, Texas Southern University established an Economic Development Center (EDC) in 1980 in the University's School of Business.
Over the last 29 years, the EDC has participated in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Historically Black Colleges and Universities Community Development and Expansion Program. This program has enabled TSU to expand its role and effectiveness in community planning and economic development.
The main office of the EDC is located on the campus of Texas Southern University in the Jesse H. Jones School of Business, Room 151. The office is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
