CURRENT PROGRAMS:

Small Business Revolving Loan Fund Program
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center in partnership with Unity National Bank and Minority Business Development Center (MDBC) identified and selected up to ten (10) EDC's program participants to assist them with small business planning, development and management, and small business revolving loan services.

Skills Training in Automatized Technology and Small Business Technical Assistance Program
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center in collaboration with other community entities provides (1) skills training in automatized technology for GED participants, homeless women with children, the unemployed and low-to-moderate income resident; (2) technical assistance for start-up and existing businesses; (3) financial assistance of $20,000 to help defray the cost of technology upgrade of two HUD public housing learning centers.

Homeownership Opportunities and Computerized Technology with Technical Assistance Program
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center in collaboration with other community organizations provides (1) home ownership and rental opportunities for low-to-moderate income Houston residents; (2) financial literacy and office administrative skills training for GED, high school and college students, MLK transitional housing residents and Houston residents; (3) technical assistance in the form of a grant ($10,000) to selected minority businesses who have been in business ten years or more that are located in the EEC zone; and (4) financial assistance of $10,000 to a selected faith-based organization to create a computer technology learning center for senior citizens.

Revitalization and Economic Development Empowerment for Eliminating Community Blight Program
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center in partnership with Acres Homes Multi-Service Center and Third Ward Community-Based Theater Group provides (a) neighborhood revitalization to restore a community-based theater and to expand Acres Homes Multi-Service Center's computer technology facility; (b) technical assistance (TA) in economic development and computer technology skill-development to honored micro-minority enterprises who have been in business 10 years or more that received business expansion/revitalization grant of up to $10,000 from TSU-EDC and GED participants, low-to-moderate income persons, the homeless, senior citizens and Houston residents, but not limited to.

Skills Training Program
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center has a joint venture agreement with Houston Community College, Harris County Department of Education and Harris County Community Development to provide GED training, remedial education and office automation skills-development for the homeless, the unemployed and low-to-moderate income residents. Potential participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Low-to-moderate income status or homeless
  • Resident of public housing, transitional center or low income housing
  • Drug-free

Business Automation Service Center
Texas Southern University's Economic Development Center in partnership with Houston Community College and Houston Housing Authority provides skills-training and skilled-services through the earning-while-learning program, conducted through its business automation skilled-service center for selected economically-disadvantaged program participants, and start-up and existing economically-disadvantaged minority businesses and organizations.
