Teaching from the Heart: Meaningful Strategies for
Preparing Students for Career Success in a Turbulent Economy

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Deadline for Submissions: October 6, 2008

While the demand for workers with college degrees is projected to grow well into the future, the issue of which job qualifications will be important is becoming increasingly complex. As consumers become more sophisticated, products are becoming more technologically advanced. While companies continue to shrink their workforces, workers are expected to possess cross-functional skills that will allow them to work smarter, not harder. Moreover, globalization is not just the cross-border trade of goods and commodities, but also the growing practice of offshore outsourcing where companies are transferring labor to other shores. Given this milieu, it is reasonable to ask “how can higher education best prepare students to do well in the current and future labor market?”  The purpose of this year’s conference is to examine the knowledge and skills needed in this new, fast-paced environment, as well as, ways in which we are as educators can best teach these emerging requirements.

Teaching from the Heart: Meaningful Strategies for Preparing Students for Career Success in a Turbulent Economy is the theme for the 16th annual Southwestern Business Administration Teaching Conference (SWBATC). The Conference offers a double-blind, peer-reviewed venue for sharing practical and theoretical pedagogical approaches for the classroom, laboratory, online, face-to-face, distance learning and other learning environments. This conference is designed to represent a unique opportunity to share broad range of ideas by bringing together faculty, administrators, students and practitioners from the various business, education and social science disciplines. Submissions with an applied focus are desired, theoretical submissions are welcomed. While each presenter’s discipline may be the context for a particular submission, presenters are asked to stress the learning technique/practice. It is expected that submissions accepted for presentation will be of cross-disciplinary interest. This conference offers a peer-reviewed venue for the discussion of research at all stages of development, as well as research that explores strategies beyond traditional pedagogical paradigms.

ABOUT SWBATC

The Southwest Business Administration Teaching Conference (SWBATC) is an annual conference sponsored by the Texas Southern University Jesse H.
