Dr. Mahesh Vanjani is an Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at Texas Southern University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Mississippi. He also obtained his MA in Economics and MBA degrees from the University of Mississippi. His Bachelor of Commerce degree is from the University of Calcutta, India. Dr. Vanjani’s teaching experience includes a wide range of classes in the information technology area at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Vanjani has published numerous articles based on his research. In addition to publications, he has also presented several papers at regional, national and international conferences. His current research interests include group decision support systems, group behavior, electronic language translation, e-commerce, e-government, internet use, and information security and privacy.
Dr. Vanjani believes that information technology is an extremely interesting and challenging field. Based on the latest US statistics, surveys and reports on salary information and college graduate hiring he also believes that it is a lucrative field. However, information technology is very dynamic and rapidly changing. Old technology is being constantly improved and upgraded or even phased out to make room for the emerging new technologies that are being developed and implemented at a rapid rate. While this makes a career in Information Technology very interesting and demanding it necessitates constant learning and adaptation to change. Moreover, Information Technology has also become all pervasive and there are very few careers that will not demand information literacy and computer literacy. It is very important for almost everyone to be technology savvy in today’s digitally connected work place.
