GIVING OPPORTUNITIES IN SCHOOL OF LAW
Texas Southern University launched the Open Doors Capital Campaign in September 2001. The $50 million campaign was established to raise funds for endowed scholarships; the restoration and upgrade of the University’s library; renovation and enhancement of the University Museum; the creation of an outdoor athletic and educational complex; a state-of-the-art facility for advanced preparation for communications professionals; and the advancement of the outreach program for aging and intergenerational wellness.
The School of Law strives to maintain faculty that exhibit scholarly pursuit and competency in their specialized areas of study. To this end, the School has created an Academic Center of Excellence for Legal Studies, which will provide an avenue for faculty to teach, perform research and provide public service. In an effort to employ highly specialized faculty, the School of Law, like other colleges and schools at Texas Southern, must raise funds for faculty development and endowed chairs.
Donors may choose to contribute to the School of Law’s Annual Fund, Named Giving Opportunities, Endowed Giving (Scholarships and Endowed Chairs) and Legal Societies.
The Annual Fund is an important means of support for the School of Law. Contributions from the Annual Fund are used to cover academic and educational activities, student programs, scholarships and fellowships. Donors may contribute to the Annual Fund anytime during the fiscal year.
Named Giving Opportunities provide donors with an opportunity to perpetually honor people and ideals. These memorials and tributes, limited in nature, take a variety of form including: programs, endowed chairs, buildings, and gardens. All named gifts are subject to approval by the Texas Southern University Board of Regents. Donors who reserve named gift opportunities will be consulted on configuration and inscription based on general guidelines. This will be done on a case-by-case basis and at the conclusion of the campaign. Additionally, a Named Gifts Registry will be maintained to properly acknowledge all named gifts and to ensure accurate and timely recording of all reservations.
Endowed Scholarships are needed to enhance and increase the availability of financial aid for merit and need-based scholarships. Additional funds are needed to keep pace with the rising cost in education.
The Endowed Chair is an academic appointment providing the resources to attract support and retain legal scholars in the areas of teaching and research. Endowed chairs will allow distinguished professors to network with companies and executives on behalf of students, programs, the School of Law, as well as assist in creating internships and employment opportunities.
