FEBRUARY 2006 E-NEWSLETTER

Dear TMSL Alumni & Friends

The beginning of 2006 has already started off extremely busy in Alumni Affairs.  We have so many exciting events and programs planned for you that everyone is sure to find something to participate in and stay connected to our law school and fellow alumni.

It brings me great pleasure to continue to see the growing number of alumni participation in all TMSL events and programs.  For instants, our Dallas/Fort Worth area alumni came out in record numbers to attend a reception sponsored by Victor Vital, Class of 1995.  This vast number of attendees just marks the beginning of what is to come from this newly forming TMSL Dallas/Fort Worth Area Alumni Association.

Many of you have been so gracious to volunteer your time judging and/or coaching moot court, mock trial and legal negotiation competitions, and serving on various panels for the law school’s continuing legal education programs.  Our students value your time and appreciate the learning experience they gain from you, sharing with them your legal experiences and expertise.

We have several upcoming CLE programs, particularly our second symposium on Hurricane Katrina, titled Hurricane Katrina: Environmental Impact & Lessons on Public Health & Justice.  There is NO ADMISSION FEE for this conference so please take advantage of earning 6.25 MCLE and 1.0 Ethics hours FREE.  In addition, please take the opportunity to return to TMSL for all your continued legal education needs.  As always, if there is a subject area that you are interested in please do not hesitate to offer your suggestions.

This issue shares with you many of our recent events and programs, informs you of upcoming events, highlight’s your fellow alumni’s recent accomplishments and much, much more.  I hope you enjoy.

Sincerely,

Prudence N. Smith

Annual Fund & Giving

The TMSL Annual Fund has over $78,000 to date with 164 donors.  If you have not made your donation yet, now is the time.  As we reach the end of our fiscal year in August, we are over half way to meeting our financial goal for 2005-2006.

February 6 - 10 2006, the Office of Annual Fund & Giving and the Office of Communications hosted a Faculty/Staff fund drive titled “Give a Little Give A Latte“.    $2800 was collected from this event.

The law school and alum host numerous events for our alumni.  For instance, every month an alum will sponsor “Thurgood Thursday” which is a time for all alumni to mingle and network while enjoying food and beverages.  A representative from the Office of Alumni Affairs and/or Office of Annual Fund & Giving will always be at these events to take your donations and/or pledge to the law school.  In addition, we have a monthly Dinner with the Dean which is sponsored by fellow alum, Doi Heckler.  This is a time to sit, talk and enjoy a wonderful meal with Dean Carrington and approximately 10 other alumni and learn about all that is going on at the law school and with your friends and former classmates.  Again, this is an excellent opportunity to make your donation to the annual fund.

Make a gift or pledge today.  Encourage fellow alumni to make a donation.  Volunteer to help the Office of Annual Fund & Giving meet its 2005-2006 financial support goals.

For more information about the annual fund and giving opportunities, or to make a donation, please contact Kira Cross, Director of the Annual Fund/Giving at (713) 313-1156 and visit: www.tsu.edu/academics/law/development/index.asp
